Report】Conducted a carbon neutral seminar in Thailand jointly with the Thai Ministry of Industry and Factories Department.

summary

The International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT) held a two-day carbon neutral seminar in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 18 and 19 in cooperation with the Department of Industrial Works (DIW) of the Thai Ministry of Industry to promote decarbonization efforts by Thai SMEs and others.
ICETT and DIW signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation to achieve carbon neutrality in Thai industry in May this year, and this seminar will be held as part of the cooperative activities based on the MoU (this is the second seminar held this year, following the one held when the MoU was signed).

The seminar was attended by a total of approximately 300 participants, including Thai SMEs (including Japanese companies) and Thai government agencies, over a two-day period, where lectures and exercises were conducted on practical matters related to the calculation and reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In addition, participants, including lecturers, actively exchanged opinions on issues and initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality.

Results and future developments/efforts, etc.

We believe that this seminar helped to deepen the understanding of the current situation and challenges and specific emission reduction initiatives among the parties concerned regarding decarbonization management and GHG emission reduction efforts in Thailand. We will use this opportunity to further strengthen the relationship of mutual cooperation between ICETT and DIW, and to provide continuous and effective support.

As a concrete initiative for the future, we plan to hold the third seminar in Thailand during this fiscal year (around January or February 2025) on initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality.

In the next fiscal year and beyond, based on the results of this seminar, we plan to hold seminars on initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality in Thailand, and to provide accompanying support (GHG emissions calculation, etc.) to (individual) Thai companies in order to link this to actual GHG emissions reductions. We also plan to provide accompanying support (GHG emissions calculation, etc.) to (individual) Thai companies to help them actually reduce GHG emissions.
