Report】 "Tianjin Environmental Exchange Program" commissioned by Yokkaichi City was implemented in FY2024.

 Yokkaichi City and Tianjin, People's Republic of China have continued exchanges in various fields since their friendship city affiliation in 1980. As part of this exchange, the Foundation has been conducting training programs since 1993 under contract with Yokkaichi City, with the aim of improving the environmental problems faced by Tianjin.
 In FY2024, the theme was "Prevention of Air Pollution," and for the first time in five years since the Corona disaster, participants visited Japan for training.

Background and Objectives

 While Tianjin has achieved remarkable economic development, the city is facing many environmental problems, and improvement of these problems is an urgent issue. Therefore, the program aims to help staff members of the Tianjin Ecology and Environment Bureau and others understand Japanese environmental conservation technologies and management methods, and to help them improve Tianjin's environment.

Contents

Training period: Monday, November 11, 2024 - Friday, November 15, 2024

Trainees: Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment and other officials, 4 persons in total

  The trainees learned from Yokkaichi city officials about laws and regulations related to air pollution prevention, as well as the state of pollution in Yokkaichi at the time and the process of improvement. They also visited companies to deepen their understanding of air pollution prevention technologies and the initiatives of each company, as well as their efforts to become carbon neutral through on-site tours. At the end of the training, the participants made presentations on what they had learned and how they would apply what they learned to their work.

 Efforts to improve air pollution in China are being further strengthened as the State Council of China has issued the Notice on Action Plan for Continuous Improvement of Air Quality in 2023. It is expected that the trainees will apply what they learned in this training program to their daily work to prevent and improve air pollution in Tianjin.
